as Kelly Cramp (Pennington, NJ / Hopewell Val. Cen.) and Jacqueline
Pundt (Mt. Airy, MD / Western Tech) teamed up to topple the Tide.
Cramp scored a game-high 12-points, while Pundt added 10 points,

field for 16 points, leading McDaniel past the Spartans. Costa was
the beneficiary of precise passing by Toby McIntire (Crofton, MD

McDaniel 76, Johns Hopkins University 60
Westminster, MD --- WBB: Terror Takes Centennial’s Top Spot
McDaniel College dominated the closing minutes of the first half,
and the entire second half to cruise to a 76-60 win over Johns Hopkins,
ranked 11th in the latest d3hoops.com poll. The win puts McDaniel
in sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference.

until a Kelly Cramp (Pennington, NJ / Hopewell Valley Central) lay-up
put the Terror ahead for good with 11:56 showing in the period.
Cramp finished the night with 12 points.
Hopkins kept it close until McDaniel embarked on a 7-0 run to make
it a 30-21 game. McDaniel stretched the lead to 13 points, going
into the locker room ahead by a 41-28 margin, largely due to accurate
shooting. The Terror hit on 14 of 28 field goals in the half, while
Hopkins hit just 12 of 31 shots. McDaniel finished the game hitting
45.5 percent of its shots. The Blue Jays made good on just 35.7
percent of its field goals.
The second half looked much like the end of the first, with the
Terror stretching the lead to as much as 20. A frustrated Hopkins
never put the Terror lead in peril.
McDaniel’s Kristy Costa (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) and Toby
McIntire (Crofton, MD / St. Mary’s) each scored 16 for the
game-high, while Costa pulled down nine rebounds. The Terror’s

McDaniel 71, Pittsburgh-Greensburg 64
Westminster, MD --- WBB: Terror Bounces Bobcats
McDaniel held on to defeat a scrappy Pitt-Greensburg squad 71-64
Wednesday night in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The
win marks McDaniel’s first NCAA playoff win.
McDaniel took an early lead, but a 12-0 run gave the Bobcats a
24-18 lead with 5:24 left in the first half. McDaniel responded
in kind with a 19-6 run down the stretch and took a 37-30 lead.
The Terror went ahead on a Katy Powell (Smithsburg, MD / Smithsburg)
trifecta with 2:07 showing, and the Terror would not trail again.
McDaniel would push the lead to as many as 16 points in the second
half, but the Bobcats fought valiantly to cut the Terror lead down
to five with 5:35 remaining in the second half. They wouldn’t
come any closer. With the win the Terror go to 24-3 on the season
and will play The College of New Jersey on Saturday in the next

NCAA Championship Tournament: Second Round:
McDaniel 70, TCNJ 65
Westminster, MD --- WBB: Terror Tames the Lions; Advances to Sweet
16
The McDaniel College women’s basketball team opened the second
half with an 18-3 run to recapture the lead from The College of
New Jersey. The Green Terror held on down the stretch to take a
70-65 win before a crowd of 824 at the Gill Center on Saturday.
The Green Terror advances to the Sweet 16 for the first time in
the program’s history.
The teams traded baskets through much of the first half with the
Terror staying just in front of the Lions. McDaniel stretched the
lead to six points on a Sara Franz (Catonsville, MD / Seton Keough)
trey with 9:48 left in the opening period. The Lions Deana Cuzzo
(Port Reading, NJ / Bishop Ahr) responded with a three of her own,
which sparked a 14-4 New Jersey run. McDaniel’s six-point
lead became a seven-point deficit with little more than four minutes
in the half.
The Terror still trailed seven with 1:04 remaining before Toby
McIntire (Crofton, MD / St. Mary’s) and Brooke Weimer (Williamsport,
MD / Williamsport) sandwiched a missed Theresa DeMedio (Berlin,
NJ / Camden Catholic) three-pointer with a pair of deuces to get
the Terror within three going into the break.
The teams traded baskets to open the half before Kelly Cramp (Pennington,
NJ / Hopewell Valley Central) slipped under a screen and took a
perfect feed from McIntire finishing the play with a reverse lay-up
for the 1,000th point of the junior’s career. She entered
the game with 990 points to her credit.
Cramp’s basket put McDaniel within a point before a Jacqueline
Pundt (Mt. Airy, MD / Western Tech) steal and lay-up on the next
Lions’ possession at 18:15 of the second half gave McDaniel
its first lead since the 7:24 mark in the first.
Seizing the momentum early in the half, the Terror would score
an additional 14 points over the next 6:31. Adrienne Warner (Sparta,
NJ / Sparta) stopped the bleeding with a 12-foot jumper with 11:31
left in the game.
Liz Martin (Shamong, NJ / Shawnee) brought the Lions within five
scoring eight points over the next seven minutes, but her efforts
alone were not enough. New Jersey got within four twice in the final
two minutes, but the confident foul shooting of Franz and Weimer
sealed the Lions’ fate.
Pundt led McDaniel offensively and on the glass with 16 points
and 11 rebounds. She hit on seven of her 11 shots from the field
and was two-for-three at the line. The Green Terror got 15 points
and nine rebounds out of McIntire. Kristy Costa (Galloway, NJ /
Absegami) scored 12 points and pulled in seven rebounds. Cramp scored
14 to leave herself with 1,004 points in her career.
The Lion’s were the beneficiaries of 18 points and eight
rebounds from Martin. Warner hit on eight of 13 shots from the field
for 16 points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
With the win, McDaniel improves to 25-3 on the season, and will
await the winner of this evening’s Johns Hopkins at Marymount
game in the round of 16.

NCAA Championship Tournament: Sweet 16: McDaniel
64, Marymount University 68
Arlington, VA --- WBB: McDaniel's Clock Finally Strikes Midnight
The looming specter that was season’s end finally caught up
with Becky Martin’s squad. Everything was going according
to script, but a last minute, Marymount re-write brought McDaniel’s
season to an abrupt halt at the Verizon Sports Arena. The Saints
knocked off McDaniel 68-64 before a capacity crowd in Arlington.
McDaniel found itself in an early hole as the Saints embarked on
a 7-0 run to start the game. Freshman Allison Biggs broke the McDaniel
early jitters sinking a basket at 17:25 to get the Terror on the
scoreboard. She got her Terror to 9-4 on the following possession.
Rattled early by the home crowd, McDaniel found itself trailing
by ten after Ashlee Courte drained a three just past the 12-minute
mark. That shot seemed to sober the punch drunk Terror, who responded
with a 14-6 run on the backs of and Biggs and Kelly Cramp to get
within two. McDaniel was unable to close the gap heading into the
locker room, and watched as the Saints pulled away by six to take
a 37-31 lead into the break.
The six point lead offered little intimidation to a team that has
trailed at the half in all but one of its post-season games. As
has been the custom throughout the postseason run, McDaniel came
out hot in the second half.
11 seconds in, Cramp nailed a three-pointer to get McDaniel within
three. A Tricia Murphy turnover on the next possession led to a
Kristy Costa lay-up to get the Terror within one. The Green Terror
finally managed to tie the game with 17:26 left to play as Costa
finished a lay-up, followed by a successful trip to the line.
Despite knotting the score, it took the Saints just 20 seconds
to regain the lead and stretch it to five. Paced by the relentless
Costa, McDaniel tied it once again with 13:40 as the sophomore finished
a Toby McIntire pass on the fast-break. Costa’s jumper on
the next possession gave the Terror its first lead with 13:07 showing.
Costa accounted for 10 points and a pair of rebounds in the opening
seven minutes of the second half. She finished the game with 20
points having gone nine of 12 from the field and two-for-two at
the line.
With momentum on their side, McDaniel stretched the lead to six
points when Cramp hit yet another three with little more than ten
minutes remaining. That was the largest lead McDaniel would own
in the contest.
Costa’s final lay-up of the night finished a two-on-one run
to perfection by Sara Franz, and gave McDaniel a 64-61 lead with
1:42 left in the game.
Katie Jarvis responded with a lay-up to gate the Saints within
one with 1:27 left in the contest. McDaniel turned the ball over
on the following possession, and the Saints capitalized on the gaffe
with a Randi Jones jumper to take a 65-64 lead with 39 ticks left
on the clock.
After carrying the offense on her back through the second half,
Costa could not get her shot to fall on the ensuing possession.
The Saints Adele Magnani hauled in the rebound and dished the ball
to Nikki Rowland on the right sideline just above the three-point
arc where Brooke Weimer fouled her to stop the clock. Rowland hit
both of her shots in the double bonus to give the Saints a 67-64
lead with 11 seconds remaining.
McDaniel got the ball up the court to Franz who shot a trey from
the top left corner of the arc. The shot went up a touch heavy,
banking off the back left corner of the rim into the waiting arms
of Anetta Benja with three seconds left in the game. Franz fouled
Benja immediately. Benja missed her first shot keeping the Terror’s
slim hopes alive, but she would not falter on the second, giving
her team the final 68-64 edge.
Aside from Costa’s 20 points, McDaniel got 11 points from
both Cramp and Weimer. Katie Jarvis’ 18 points led Marymount
offensively. She clicked on five of her seven shots from the field,
and was a perfect eight-for-eight at the line.
As a team, McDaniel made just seven trips to the charity stripe,
compared to the 23 chances afforded to the Saints. Marymount made
good on 17 of those chances. With the loss, McDaniel concludes its
finest season with a 25-4 mark. The Saints advance to the Elite
Eight with a 26-4 record, and will face Rochester for the right
to go to the Final Four.
It all seemed strangely familiar, except for the outcome.
